The anti-caries effect of Tie Guan Yin tea

It is generally considered that there are two kinds of disease harm human’s teeth: caries and periodontitis. Caries commonly known as tooth decay is a common dental frequently-occurring disease. Caries are caused by many reasons, one of the important reasons is that teeth are poorly in dental calcification so they are not hard enough and easy to be harmed. The fact that drinking tea may protect teeth is applied already in the ancient in China. Su Dongpo the famous poet in Song Dynasty had ever said in “Tea Log”: gargling with the stodgy tea may remove greasinese in your mouth, strong teeth and consumer beetle as well. The modern science analyzes that Tie guan yin tea contains rich of fluoride while other foods contain little. Around 40%-80% of fluoride in the dragon well tea dissolves in hot water, which can much easily connect with the calcium in teeth. As a result a layer of calcium fluoride will be formed on the surface of teeth, which can effect to anti-acid and prevent caries.

People in Japan had ever made a research on ratio of caries of school children in two neighbor villages, whose result showed that drinking Tie Guan Yin tea had a good effect preventing caries. For each school child each day, they drink one cup of Tie Guan Yin tea. If counted by 0.4mg of fluoride, for one year half of the the kids with caries were cured. 55% of the school children with caries of 100 schools counted in Japan had their disease greatly reduced after drinking the Tie Guan Yin tea. This shows that drinking Tie Guan Yin tea has a preventing effect for those who are without caries while a curing effect for those who’d suffered from caries.
